👋 Welcome to the 1027 NEW readers this week.

Hey Folks,

It's been a crazy 7 days in the world of AI! From Sam Altman's firing and rehiring to the news that OpenAI's Project Q* might be the closest thing to AGI yet!

To help make Thursday Thunder as helpful as possible I'd be really grateful if you could take this short survey to see what you'd like to see from myself and my team over the next 6-months.

🏔️Quote of the Week

“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.”
— Elon Musk

✍️ Today's Prompt - One Prompt To Rule Them All

"I want you to become my Prompt engineer. Your goal is to help me craft the best possible prompt for my needs. The prompt will be used by you, ChatGPT.

You will follow the following process:

1. Your first response will be to ask me what the prompt should be about. I will provide my answer, but we will need to improve it through continual iterations by going through the next steps.

2. Based on my input, you will generate 2 sections, a) Revised prompt (provide your rewritten prompt, it should be clear, concise, and easily understood by you), b) Questions (ask any relevant questions pertaining to what additional information is needed from me to improve the prompt).

3. We will continue this iterative process with me providing additional information to you and you updating the prompt in the Revised prompt section until I say we are done."

📚 Something For Sharing

1. The Timeline of a Wild Week At OpenAI

In case you missed it Sam Altman was fired and re-hired all in a week. Here's a quick wrap up if the events:

Friday, November 17, 2023: OpenAI’s board of members inform Altman that they have decided to sack him. This happened on a Google Meet call between Altman and the board members.

Saturday, November 18, 2023: In a blog post, the company made the new of Altman’s sacking public. In the post, it was said that the board has lost confidence in his abilities to lead the company. It also accused Altman of not being candid in his conversations with the board.

Saturday, November 18, 2023: In a joint statement shared by Greg Brockman, the co-founder of the tech firm who also stepped down in protest, said that Altman was fired over a Google Meet call without any prior info. He said that they are trying to find out what actually happened. The statement was reposted by Altman.

Brockman also claimed that the board told him that he will keep his place but Altman have to go.

Saturday, November 18, 2023: Mira Murati, the Chief Technology Officer in OpenAI was appointed as an Interim CEO.

Sunday, November 19, 2023: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella offers full support to Altman. He announced that Altman and Brockman will join Microsoft to lead the new AI research initiative.

Amid reports of investors pushing the board to reinstate Altman, OpenAI announced former Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear as it’s new CEO.

Monday, November 20, 2023: OpenAI employees wrote an open letter, threatening to quite if Altman is not reinstated. They also demanded the board members who sacked him to step down.

November 22, 2023: Open AI announced that Altman will return as CEO and new board members will be appointed

2. It Was All Because of AGI and Project Q*

Reuters have reported that the initial firing happened because Altman had failed to update the board on a breakthrough the company had had with a secret project call Q* (pronounced Q-Star), which some internally believe could be a breakthrough in the startup’s search for superintelligence, also known as artificial general intelligence (AGI).

3. ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users

Despite all the drama at OpenAI this week the team still managed to ship voice to the CHatGPT free tier meaning you can now speak with ChatGPT in real time on GPT3.5-Turbo. This is particularly awesome for language learning.

4. Anthropic Releases Claude 2.1

Anthropic has released Claude 2.1, the latest version of its AI assistant, with several major upgrades including a 200,000 token context window, reduced rates of hallucination, and new tool use capabilities.

5. Stability AI Announces Stable Diffusion Video

Stability AI has released its first foundation model for generative video based on the image model Stable Diffusion. Stable Video Diffusion can generate 14 or 25 video frames at customizable frame rates.
