⚡ Thursday Thunder - Text-To-Speech and Audio Productivity Tips

Published 11 months ago • 3 min read

👋 Welcome to the 701 NEW readers this week.

Hey Folks,

If you're new here Thursday Thunder is where I share the best self-development tips, AI tools, and productivity hacks each week to help you live a healthier, wealthier, happier and more productive life.

Last week I was giving a keynote on AI in medicine at HIMSS 2023 in Portugal and it was interesting seeing how AI is already reducing the workload for healthcare professionals and making things more accessible for patients.

I've been spending the week walking my dog Basil while optimising marketing and hiring for Virti and some of my other companies. There has been lots going on this week across learning, productivity and tech.

So let's dive right in.

🏔️Quote of the Week

"There's no use waiting for the storm to blow over. Leap into the lightning." - Enter Shikari

✍️ Today's Prompt - Business Market Research

I want you to act as a market researcher. You will help me gather and analyze data about my target market, including their demographics, behaviors, and preferences. You will ask me questions about my research objectives, data sources, and analysis methods, and provide me with different techniques and tools that I can use to conduct effective research. My first request is to conduct a survey of my target audience to gather feedback on my brand.

📚 Something For Sharing

1. ElevenLabs Launches New Generative Voice AI Products and Announces $19m Series A Round

ElevenLabs is super cool. It's a voice technology research company and world leader in audio AI software and it's just raised a $19m Series A round to continue its voice AI research and product deployment - part of its mission to make all content universally accessible. I've been playing around with various audio tools and ElevenLabs is definitely worth playing around with. Did anyone say "AI-generated audiobooks and podcasts?".

2. ⏩ Why you should consume content at 2x speed - Study from UCLA

A 2021 study from UCLA showed that participants retained nearly the same amount of information when watching a lecture at 1x, 1.5x, and even 2x speed.

If the 2x speed participants were able to revisit the video again before a test, they even performed better than the 1x speed group.

This indicates that it could be a better use of time to watch a video at 2x speed, and schedule another viewing at a later time, rather than watching it once at 1x speed. For me personally, I listen to podcasts, non-fiction books, and informational YouTube videos at 1.7x speed as 2x is a bit too fast. If I'm listening to things for fun I'll default to standard 1.0 speed.

3. Marvel's Secret Invasion used AI art for opening credits

I love everything Marvel and their latest superhero series, “Secret Invasion,” made its debut on Disney+, sparking tons of backlash after it was confirmed the intro sequence was AI-generated.

You can check out IGN's coverage here.

4. Meta Introduces Voicebox the text-to-speech model that’s too good to go public?

Like generative systems for images and text, Voicebox creates outputs in a vast variety of styles, and it can create outputs from scratch as well as modify a sample it’s given. But instead of creating a picture or a passage of text, Voicebox produces high-quality audio clips. The downside. They're not releasing it to the public just yet.

5. ChatGPT Function calling and other updates you might have missed

OpenAI have been quietly releasing updates to their APIs with some very cool functionality added including new 16k context version of gpt-3.5-turbo (vs the standard 4k version) and a 25% cost reduction on input tokens for gpt-3.5-turbo which was already pretty cheap.

These updates make things even easier to harness AI tools for productivity and business which I'll be diving into on a stand alone blog post in 2 weeks time.
